Lipid panel, weight, blood pressure, complete blood count, fasting blood glucose
What is the mechanism of action of Risperdal?
The exact mechanism of action of risperidone is unknown.
Where are the known drug interactions of Risperdal?
- May decrease the effects of levodopa.
- Carbamazepine may increase the clearance of risperidone.
- Fluoxetine in my double or triple the plasma concentrations of risperidone.
- Clozapine may decrease the clearance of risperidone.
What are the contraindications of risperidone?
- Too much, reread drug card.
What are the adverse effects of risperidone?
Adverse effects may include extra pyramid of symptoms, insomnia, agitation, anxiety, so I’m nights, nausea, constipation, vomiting, dyspepsia, rhinitis , tachycardia, dry skin, priapism and rash
What should the pharmacist tell the patient and they are counseling them on the use of risperidone?
- May cause fainting during initial doses, use caution when getting up from sitting or lying position.
- May impair judgment, use caution when operating machinery including automobiles.
- Avoid alcohol during therapy.
- May take with food or milk if G.I. upset occurs.
- Solution is compatible with orange cheese, coffee, and low-fat milk.
- ODT tablets must be used immediately after opening their blister.
- Do not try to push the tablet through the blister. Open with dry hands and do not try to split or store the tablets after the blisters open.
- Avoid over exposure to sunlight and extreme temperatures during therapy.
- Do not take any OTC medications without first checking with a physician or pharmacist.
- If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If it is closer to the time of your next dose than the dose you missed, skip the missed dose and return to your dosing schedule. Do not double doses.
