What is the definition of risks?
the potential for physical and psychological harm that might be caused by a study being done, including discomfort and stress
What is stage one of risk management?
- identifying risks
- consider whether the risk is likely to occur or not
- assess how severe the consequences will be
What is the risk of having vulnerable patients?
-children under 18 = comsidered to be vulnerable
- also adults and those lacking in capacity
What is the risk of sensitive topics?
– topics sensitive in nature
-sexuality, violent experiences, gender

- research including deception poses a risk
What is the risk of using records?
-research where records are accessed
getting genetic info, private info
What is the risk of using sensitive data?
- some data is sensitive to individuals
e.g. employee data
What is the risk of harm?
- research that causes more than minimum pain
What is the risk of experiences?
- research that gives an experience like hypnosis, invasive techniques, physical exercise
What is the risk of labelling?
- research that leads to someone labelling themselves
e.g. having a bad memory, feeling stupid
What is the risk of biological samples?
- biological samples
- e.g. taking blood
What is stage 2?
- solutions to manage the risk
What does the solution of avoidance mean?
- avoiding the risk completely
What does the solution of mitigation mean?
- reduced as far as possible
What does the solution of transfer mean ?
- using insurance against the risk to reduce severity
