Risk assessment Flashcards
What are the benefits of careful pre-op assessment?
Enables identification of prognostic factors, appropriate risk assessment, and suitable triage of cases.
What does the TEST acronym stand for?
Thorough intra-oral assessment, Endodontic assessment, Stabilisation of primary dental disease, Tooth tissue remaining is restorable.
How many complexities are recognised for root canal treatments?
3
What are the criteria for Complexity 1 root treatments?
Suitable for GDPs: root curvature <30° to root axis, no RC obstruction or damaged access, previously treated tooth with short, poorly condensed root fillings, pulp extirpation as emergency treatment, incision and drainage as emergency treatment, straightforward root treatment.
Who can do Complexity 1 root treatments?
GDP
What are Complexity 2 root treatments?
Root canal curvature of 30-45°, canals deemed not negotiable in coronal third but patent thereafter, LA difficulties that cannot be resolved by routine measures, teeth >25mm in length, incomplete root development, limited mouth opening, removal of fractured posts less than 8mm in length.
Who can do Complexity 2 root treatments?
Suitable for DWSI or specialist endodontist.
Who can do Complexity 3 root treatments?
Specialist endodontist, consultant endodontist.
What is included in Complexity 3 root treatments?
Curvature >45°, S shaped (recurved) canals, canals not negotiable their entire length, developmental tooth abnormalities, pathological resorption, severely limited mouth opening, complicated retreatments, peri-radicular surgery.
