Risk Assesment Flashcards

1
Q

Explain the risk assessment in relation to river and site choice

A

-Chose it in spring
-Has a relatively small catchment area
= Ensures we’re less likely to encounter the river in high flood
+ monitored the weather week before, morning and during
Discussed safety as a priority when choosing
-avoided deep gorges + ensured water was a ‘safe’ depth /speed before entering
-Tried to choose sites without steep banks
-Avoided outer edges of meanders and larger boulders + riffles to allow safer access to water
All sites were next to the footpath to allow easy access
All students were advised to wear suitable clothing and footwear before the trip

A

The staff to student ratio was high to aid supervision
