He moved to Vienna without a job and qualifications and ended up in a youth hostel. He tried to become and artist and painted post cards for tourists.

He joins the german workers party in 1919 because he liked the ideas. He joined as the 55th member and before joining was a spy for the German army.

He set up a “gymnastics and sports division” to deal with other parties who came to heckle with them. It was really a cover up name for ex soldiers who wanted to fight. He is also now incharge of the party and renames it the “nationalist socialist German workers party”
