1) National Recovery Administration (NRA) which enforced codes of practices for businesses including working hours and minimum wages

2) Agricultural Adjustment Agency (AAA) which bought up surplus crops and subsidised farmers to grow less crops if they overproduced

How did FDR increase the importance of the Presidency?

A

1) Increased the number of White House staff by creating his own separate ‘Executive Office of the President’

2) Used executive orders to get through laws if Congress was not willing to pass them

3) Used ‘fireside chats’ and held press meetings twice a week to keep people informed and maintain his popularity

Why was FDR also seen as unpopular in some capacity?

A

1) Didn’t really know how economics worked so sometimes enacted things that increased inflation but also deflated things

2) Wealthy Businessmen disliked his policies and so did Republicans

3) Supreme Court began to turn on him by 1937 as FDR tried to ‘pack’ the court with his supporters
