What is urbanisation ?.
It is when a city becomes overcrowded. Increasing proportion of people living in towns and cities.
What is a Mega City?
a city with a population over 10million.
Name 3 push factors?
The quality of life is low and a few areas have electricity or piped water.
Large families mean there is not enough land for each child to live off.
Natural disasters like periods of droughts destroy crops.
Name 3 Pull Factors?
Better chances of a job and more of a variety.
Improved housing with electricity and water.
Better schools and hospitals mean better quality of life and higher life expectancy.
Where is Rio de Janeiro.?
is on Brazils Atlantic cost in the south- east of the country.
What are favelas?
Favelas are small houses made out of waste material and are usually set up on hills or unused areas.
Name some of the problems of favelas?
overcrowding, Built on poor land so are prone to flooding, landlsides, fires. lack of basic amneties such as water, toilets. High birth rates, crime.
How have shanty towns been imrpoved?
there is a self help scheme which uses the skills of local people to upgrade their houses and their neighbourhood.
Buildings in shanty towns have been painted to make it look colourfull.
