Rinne's and webers test Flashcards
what does rinne’s and weber’s differentiate?
allows differentiation of conductive and sensorineural deafness.
how do you carry out rinne’s test?
tuning fork is placed over the mastoid process until the sound is no longer heard, followed by repositioning just over external acoustic meatus
what is a positive rinne’s test?
‘positive test’: air conduction (AC) is normally better than bone conduction (BC)
what is a negative test rinne’s?
if BC > AC then conductive deafness
how do you carry out weber’s test?
tuning fork is placed in the middle of the forehead equidistant from the patient’s ears
the patient is then asked which side is loudest
what happens in weber’s test if there is unilateral sensorineural deafness?
sound is localised to the unaffected side
what happens in weber’s test if there is conductive deafness?
sound is localised to the affected side
