What is underclass theory?

A

The argument that most crime is committed by a highly deviant, immoral and work-shy subculture called the underclass

This is made up of problem families living in inner city council estates and social security the next generation of children into crime

Argue that most problem families are headed by single mom there’s that result in a lack of a male role model for boys and causes them to seek negative ones from gangs

A

Criminals will see this and assume there is little social or community control and commit more crime

A

Suggests that most people don’t commit crime as they can see the punishment outweighs the benefits

This is because people have 4 controls in their life which mean they will have too much to lose if caught and punished
