Aims to gather members’ views on the future of RICS Modus and the four technical RICS Journals. Consultation paper was released in April 2022.
What is the purpose of the RICS Consultation on the future of RICS Modus and Journals?
Seeking views on the future purpose and focus of the publications and on preferences regarding the production and distribution of printed copies. Pre 2020 all copies were hard copy and issued to members.
What are the five digital RICS publications?
Modus- public facing digital publication (industry trends, RIC work, positive impact of surveying on communities and society). Available to non-members and younger generation (2/3 published a week).
Technical RICS Journals- specific technical insights from Built Environment, Construction, Property and Land Surveying sectors. Weekly articles published online.
What was the toll of printing prior to August 2022?
780-840k a year printed. £2mil a year to publish.
Why did the RICS decide to go digital?
1) More accessible globally and for disabled users (screen readers/colour blindness)- enable digital experience.
2) Champion sustainable practices, reducing carbon footprint.
3) Does not require additional funding from other RICS activities.
4) Enhancing digital content- videos/data visualisation/interactive assets.
