A
- The homeless
- Unemployed/Migrant Workers
- The elderly
- Single parents - especially Teenage Mums
- People who are in debt/who waste their money

Explain the terms Relative and Absolute Poverty.
A
Absolute poverty: Not having enough income for the necessities of life. Relative Poverty: In Britain very few people live in absolute poverty but they do not have enough money to pay their electricity bills or to have a television. They are low income families.

Who looks after the Poor?
A
- The Government (through Job Seekers Allowance and the Min Wage)
- Local Authorities - social workers etc.
- Families
- Charities
- Churches - i.e. Salvation Army

What is the Poverty Trap?
A
Not being able to break out of poverty.

How do people break out of the Poverty Trap?
A
- By working hard, and going on to further education
- Training in new skills, to make them more employable
- Seeking advice

Explain the term Indolent:
A
A deliberate choice to be lazy and over-indulgent

What was/is the aim of the National Lottery?
A
To raise money for good causes, and also to help people get out of the poverty trap.

Give a reason FOR the National Lottery:
A
- The money raised goes to good causes (i.e. the London Olympics)
- Money raised goes to good causes (i.e. Charities)
- Some peoples lives have been made happier from the winnings

Give a reason AGAINST the National Lottery:
A
- Some money goes to causes from which only the rich may benefit (i.e. The Royal Opera House)
- May poor people buy tickets in the hopes of winning and becoming rich - but the chances of doing so are tiny (1:14 mil)
- Many people have become addicted to gambling
