Vocabulary comprehension and material
Idioms:
An expression whose meaning cannot be inferred from the meanings of the words that make it up
Homophones
words that sound the same but are spelled differently. Examples: Write/right, see/sea, to/too/two, knight/night
Homographs:
words that sound the same and are spelled the same. Examples: Bat, Crane, lead, read, minute
Synonyms:
Words with similar meanings. Examples: Happy, joyful, excited,
Antonyms: words with opposite meanings
off/on, night/day, enter/exit
Independent clause
A complete sentence/thought that can stand on its own. Example: daniel left on his bike early.
Dependent clause:
Not a complete sentence/thought that can stand on its own. left on his bike early
Single Sentence: one Subject and one Verb
The Train was Late
Compound Sentence: two independent clauses joined by a conjunction
Example: logan waited for the train and daniel rode his bike.
Complex sentences:
one independent clause and one or more dependent clauses.
Example: Logan waited for daniel who left on his bike
