Describe cohesion.

A

Cohesion should simply make the garden and house fit comfortably together and in their own right.

All parts of the design form a unified whole.
Linked by consistent styles, materials, furniture and planting themes.

Ways of creating cohesion….

A

Have similar plants growing inside and out to link the inside of the house with the garden.

Have floors close to level with each other inside and out.

Hard landscaping materials should have elements of similarity without being too different.

Hard landscaping materials should incorporate elements of the house’s materials.

Repeat similar plants and particular colours to increase cohesion.

Use wooden benches to achieve unity, can be rustic or formal.

Broken surface - remove loose rubble, create a flat surface paving, concrete.

Slippery surface on decking - use non slip varnishing materials, non slip steps.
Splinters- use planed/sanded timber
