Rhodopsin Flashcards
1
Q
What is the cGMP concentration in rod cells in a dark state? Why?
A
High cGMP concentration in the outer rod segment to maintain the cGMP regulated cation channels in an open state to keep the cell slightly depolarised.
2
Q
What is rhodopsin composed of?
A
The GPCR opsin and the covalently bonded 11-cis-retinal
3
Q
What is the effect of a photon on rhodopsin?
A
A photon causes isomerization of 11-cis-retinal to all-trans-retinal, a conformational change in rhodopsin and increased GEF activity towards transducin.
