Rheumatology/Orthopedics and Sports Flashcards
Anterior knee pain, tenderness, erythema, localized swelling. Repetitive kneeling.
Dx and MCC (bacteria)
Prepatellar bursitis due to Staph aureus.
clinical features of what:
decreased sensation, motor weakness w/in hours, paralysis (late, decreased distal pulses
compartment syndrome
Four common characteristics of compartment swelling
Pain out of proportion to injury
*Pain increased on passive stretch
Rapidly increasing and tense swelling
*Paresthesia (early)
what is diagnostic test for compartment syndrome?
tissue compartment pressure greater than 30mm Hg
thessaly test (stand on 1 leg with knee F 20degreees –> iIR and ER flexed knee)
McMurary test (passive F/E knee while holding knee in IR or ER)
What is a positive test and what does it indicate?
pain, clicking, catching = MENISCAL TEAR
FOOSH in child - what fracture and what are the two MC injuries?
supracondylar fracture of humerus (proximal to elbow)
entrapment of median nerve and brachial artery
midshaft humeral fracture. limited extension of wrist
what nerve
radial nerve
When is surgery considered for a younger pt with meniscal tear?
If symptoms last >3-4 weeks. Do MRI first.
Pain when lifting arm above head. Passive flexion of shoulder with thumb pointing toward floor - pain at 60 degrees of flexion. Dx?
Inflammation of rotator cuff tendon
Define difference between rotator cuff impingement or tendinopathy VS tear
abduction, ER pain and subacromial tenderness
abduction, ER pain and subacromial tenderness AND ER weakness
Axillary nerve function
shoulder abduction (teres minor and deltoid)
