What x-ray findings do you see in osteoarthritis?
X-ray Findings:
Sclerosis
-New bone formation in the subchondral trabeculae
Osteophytes
-Formation of new bone at the joint margins
Loss of cartilage
General Clinical Features of Osteoarthritis?
Age over 50 stiffness Crepitus bony enlargement can have increased synovial fluid but NO inflammation
ESR in osteoarthritis would show?
ESR is NOT elevated

Usually symmetric
Inflammatory arthritis
Chronic, progressive, disabling
Systemic problems like fatigue, fever, weight loss
What are articular manifestations?
Subcutaneous nodules Pericarditis Pulmonary nodules/ Interstitial fibrosis Inflammatory Eye Disease Episcleritis / Scleritis Vasculitis
What serological test would test positive in a patient with Rheum arthritis?
Positive RF
Positive CCP Antibody
What lab test would be indicative of rheumatoid arthritis?
Elevated CRP and ESR!
What kind of therapy do you use for rheumatoid arthritis?
You have to recognize adn treat early before joint is destroyed.
