Anterior uveitis
- Features
- Association
- Management

A

Inflammation of the anterior portion of the uvea, iris and ciliary body. It is associated with HLA-B27

Features
- acute pain
- photophobia - blurred - red eye - lacrimation
- visual acuity initially normal → impaired
- pupil may be small +/- irregular
- ciliary flush: red ring outwards (hypopyon)

Associated conditions
- AS - RA - UC, Crohns
- Behcet’s disease - Sarcoidosis

Management
- Cycloplegics (e.g. Atropine, cyclopentolate)
dilates pupil relieve pain, photophobia
- Steroid eye drops
