Autoimmune & inflammatory disesase - immune system attacks healthy cells by mistake causing inflammation severely disabling & symmetrical polyarthritis
Two types of rheumatoid arthritis
Intra-articular (situated with synovial joints)
Extra-articular (situated outside the synovial joints)
What is intra-articular rheumatoid arthritis
situated within synovial joints
inflammation of the synovium, destruction of joint cartilage, soft tissues + adjacent bone

Impaired movement deformity pain swelling Atlanto-axial joint damaged - neck vulnerable during dental treatment
