systemic disease caused by type A streptococcal infection
Affects heart, skin, joints and central nervous system

heart muscle becomes thick and swollen
often asymptomatic

pain in joints
lasts up to 6 weeks

pericarditis
A
inflammation of the pericardium
presents with fluid in the pericardial space

inflammation of the cardio myocytes
may lead to left ventricular failure then right then full heart failure

late clinical manifestation
uncontrolled movement of limbs and face but goes away when sleeping
