Concession
An acknowledgment that an opposing argument may be true or reasonable
Connotation
Meanings or associations that readers have with a word beyond its dictionary definition or denotation
Context
The circumstances, atmosphere, attitudes, and an event surrounding the text
Counter argument
An opposing argument to the one the author is putting forward
Ethos
Greek for character, the author uses it to show they are accountable or trustworthy to speak about the topic
Logos
“Embodied thought” clear rational ideas that give specific details backed up by statistics
Pathos
“Suffering/ experience” author uses this to emotionally motivate their audience.
Persona
“Mask” the face the author shows to the audience
Polemic
An aggressive argument to make your opinion seem better than others
Propaganda
The spread of information to further a cause
Purpose
Goal the speaker wants to achieve
Refutation
A denial or the validity of an opposing argument
Rhetoric
The faculty of observing in any given case the available means of persuasion, trying to persuade the audience
Rhetorical appeals
Emphasizes what they find important to persuade the audience, 3 main ones are ethos(character), logos(reason), and pathos(emotion)

Diagram that shows the relationship among the speaker, audience and subject in a text
