Paradox
making a statement(sentence) that is contradicting but also true
(something that is true but seems to be untrue)
ex: fair is foul, foul is fair
parallelism
arranging similar sentences on that idea
-what u say on the first sentence is replicated as the same idea to the next

ex: susan’s reply annoyed her brother, angered her mother and enraged her husband

metaphor
comparison between 2 unrelated things
the first object is described as having the properties of the second object
balance
sentence made up of two parts
-first part equals the second part on the same idea in length and importance
ex: Life is a comedy to those who think, a tragedy to those who feel.”
ex: My parents are the one’s that work an extra step, to reach a life worth counting the steps.
rhetorical question
figure of speech to allow readers to reflect on the question
ex:how many roads must a man walk down before they call him a man?
