Most Rhetorical Devices, some where not added because they were not that important
Alliteration?
A repetition of consonant sounds in a words close to one another
Allusion
A reference to an historical, classical, literary person or event
Analogy
Using a parallel, better understood, situation in order to explain an argument or concept
Anaphora
An extended repetition throughout paragraphs; used for effect
Anecdote
A story or narrative included to communicated a point
Antithesis
A contrasting view point or opinion; introduced in order to strengthen the author’s point
Cliché
An overused phrase with one, understood meaning
Coherence
A characteristic of a well written essay; all the sentences and paragraphs work together - through devices, repetition, etc. To create a solid, unified piece
Colloquial Diction
Phrases exclusive to a society; slang terms
Connectives
Words that connect one idea to the next. (Also, to continue, then)
Contrast
The identification on how terms, situation, etc. Are dissimilar
Climactic Word Order
The order of words in order to create the most suspense in a piece
Deductive Reasoning
Organizing arguments and evidence from broad/general to specific
Hyperbole
Exaggeration of a term or situation for effect
Irony
A statement which, implies on meaning but, because of use and phrasing, actually suggests the opposite
