It was very very important. People believed that with hard work, they could achieve the American Dream. Which was the goal for most coming to the New World.

“Group Spirit” changed to “Individual Power”. People no longer worked together to achieve a goal, but they worked separately to achieve their own goals

Land = Wealth =PowerI believe the equation changed again because people were starting to live, and not just survive. Wealth wasn’t the only thing that people craved anymore, power was on their radar as well.

People achieve it through instant fame. (American Idol) and because of actions, not physical hard work.

What is ironic about the third stage?
That fame = lose of Freedom. Famous people are always followed around, and never get to do anything without other people eventually finding out.
