What is Parenthesis?
The insertion of some verbal unit in a position that interrupts the normal syntactical flow of the sentence.
What is Ellipsis?
The deliberate omission of word or of words. Example: “And he to England Shall along with you”
What is Asyndeton?
The deliberate omission of conjunctions between a series of words, phrases or clauses. Example: “I came, I saw, I conquered.”
What is Polysyndeton?
The deliberate use of many conjunctions (does not involve omission, but is group with its opposite, asyndeton.).
What is Alliteration?
Repetition of initial consonants in two or more adjacent words. Example: “It was the meanest moment of eternity.” The m is repeated twice as a first letter in the same sentence.
What is Assonance?
the repetition of similar vowel sounds, preceded and followed by different consonants, in the stressed syllables of adjacent words.
What is Anaphora?
The repetition for the same word or groups of words at the beginnings of successive phrases.
