The way an author chooses to join words into phrases, clauses and sentences. Similar to fiction, but you can think of this as the whole group of words
Syntax
The device of using character and/or story elements symbolically to represent an abstraction in addition to literal meaning
Allegory
One of the major divisions of genre, this refers to fiction and nonfiction, including all it’s forms.
Prose
Reasoning in which one derives a specific conclusion from something general.
Deductive reasoning
Reasoning in which one arrives at a general conclusion from specific instances
Inductive reasoning
Figure of addition and emphasis which intentionally employs a serious of conjunctions by normally found in successive words, phrases or clauses
Polysyndenton
Involving a situation in which actions have an effect that is opposite from what was intended, so that the outcome is contrary to what was expected
Situational irony
An attitude that may lie under the ostensible tone of the piece.
Undertone
In modern usage, intellectually amusing language use surprises and delights. This is humorous while suggesting speakers verbal power by perceptive remarks
Wit
Latin for in the middle of things, stats a narrative in the middle of the action
In media res
Preceding in order, being the first of the two.
Former
Being the second mentioned of two
Latter
To draw a reasonable conclusion from the information presented
Inference/infer
A short l, informal reference to a famous person or event
Allusion
The repetition of two or more consonants with a change in the interviewing vowels like pitter patter, splish splash, click clack
