Establishes a clear, contrasting relationship between two ideas by joining then together or juxtaposing then, often in parallel structure.
Antithesis
A single word, or short phrase, usually interrupting normal syntax, used to lend emphasis to the words.
Expletive
The repeating of a word or expression while adding more detail to it, expands a word or idea to make sure the reader realizes it’s importance
Amplification
Substitutes for a particular attribute, the name of a famous person recognized for that attribute.
Eponym
Citing an example; using an illustrative story either true or fictitious
Exemplum
Detailing parts, causes, effects, or consequences to make a point more forcibly.
Enumeratio
Words that refer to ideas, qualities, attitudes and conditions that cannot be perceived with the senses.
Abstract Language
The tactic of inviting the audience to accept an assertion because everybody else does.
Bandwagon
Words that refer to objects, person, places, or conditions that can be perceived with the senses
Concrete language
Making an attack on the person rather than on the persons argument or particular issue
As hominem
Using words that have at least two different definitions to support or refute an issue
Equivocation
A fallacy of comparing two things that are not sufficiently alike to be compared
False analogy
An attack on an opposing point of view in order to less it’s credibility or to invalidate it
Refutation
An error in reasoning; a false argument
