Rhabdomyolysis Flashcards
what is rhabdomyolysis
muscle necrosis and the release of intracellular muscle constituents into the circuation
**muscle death!
what labs do you look at for rhabdomyolysis
CK levels, myoglobinuria
what are CF of rhabdo?
muscle pain to acute kidney injury
what are some potential causes of rhabdo?
3 main categories:
traumatic or muscle compression
nontraumatic extertional
nontraumatic non extertional
trauma or muscle compression causes
1= falls
immobilizaton (restraints, car, earthquake)
high voltage electrical burns
nontraumatic exertional rhabdomyolysis
marked physcial exertion (untrained athlete)
exertion in hot humid condition
normal heat loss through sweating is imparied
sickle cell trait
hypokalemia (regulation of blood flow to skeletal muscles)
seizures
