Reward Flashcards
What are the 4 schedule of reinforcement
Fixed interval
Variable interval
Fixed ratio
Variable ratio
Explain fixed interval schedule
Response reinforced after a fixed amount of time has elapsed since the last reinforcer was given. Results in a lower rate of responding. Dog learns to wait for the reward making the correct association with the correct behaviour
Explain variable interval schedule
Reinforcer is given after differing periods of time, dog cannot predict the time they will be given. Responding increases as dog doesn’t know when next reinforcer will be given. Dog learns to sit for differing periods of time.
Explain Fixed ratio schedule
Response is reinforced after a fixed number of responses. Maintains behaviour at a high rate, there will be a period of non-responding immediately after. Can increase anxiety in some dogs
Explain variable ratio schedule
Reward is given after a randomly unpredictable number of responses. Produces highest rate of responding and maintains the responses.
