Who was Austin Dabney?

A

Born a slave and owned by a man
named Richard Aycock
Fought in place of Aycock in the Revolution
Only African-American to fight in the Battle of Kettle Creek, and the only African American to be given land (and his freedom) in Georgia after the war
Severely wounded in battle, his life was saved by a man named Giles Harris. In an odd twist, he would end up paying for Harris’ son to attend Franklin College (now UGA) all the way through law school.
