Lexington and Concord
Began the war. Happened near Boston (Northern Theater?). April 1775. American victory.
Trenton
Christmas Eve 1776. Happened just after George Washington & troops crossed the Delaware River. The German Hessian soldiers had been up partying the night before and were unprepared for battle. (Northern Theater? Middle colonies?). American victory.
Vincennes
Western Theater? Part of the Illinois campaign. A Virginian militia seized several British forts.
Kaskaskia
Western theater? Part of the Illinois campaign. 1778. The American force conquered the British fort, effectively securing the western border/front.
Charleston
Also known as the Siege of Charleston. Charleston was under siege from the end of March to mid-May 1780. (Southern Theater?) Military and navy were involved - naval blockade of the city. An American surrender ended the siege, and the city fell under British control.
Ticonderoga
- (Northern theater?) The British occupied the high ground above Fort Ticonderoga, and the Americans surrendered. Public opinion was that the Americans surrendered too easily.
Bunker Hill
Fought near Boston (Northern Theater?) June 17, 1775. It was a British victory, but they suffered heavy losses. The battle showed that the untrained American forces were willing to stand up to the British Army.
Yorktown
The last major land battle in the Revolutionary War. A decisive victory for the combined American and French forces. Led to the British surrender on October 19, 1781
