3/5 Compromise

A

Proposed by James Wilson and Robert Sherman. Agreed to during the Philadelphia Convention of 1787.

This compromise between the north and the south agreed to count 3/5 of the slave population towards the population in the south that contributed to representation in the House of Representatives.

Connecticut Compromise

A

Also known as “The Great Compromise.” Proposed by Roger Sherman. Agreed to during the Philadelphia Convention of 1787.

The legislative body of the US would be bicameral (having two houses). In one house (the House of Representatives) states would be represented by their population - the more people in a state, the more representatives in the House. In the other house (the Senate), each state would get 2 representatives regardless of population size.
