Cell, Tissue, Organ, Organ System
What is the most basic unit of life?
Cells.
What is the function of the respiratory system?
To transfer oxygen into the circulation of the blood of the body.
What system involves the Oesophagus?
Digestive System.
What are the corresponding simplified units of carbohydrates, fat and protein?
Simple sugars, Fatty acids and glycerol and Amino Acids.
What does the acronym BLISS mean?
The breakdown of large insoluble molecules into small, soluble molecules. This relates to the breakdown of molecules in the digestive system.
Which system involves the heart?
Cardiovascular System.
In what order does food go through the digestive system?
Mouth, Oesophagus, Stomach, Small intestine (for food), Large Intestine (for water), Rectum.
What is the primary function of the liver? (Relates to digestive system)
To provide bile to break down fats going through the stomach.
What is the function of the stomach?
To break down (digest) food.
Name 4 organs in the Nervous System?
Brain, Spinal cord, Nerves, Neurons.
What is the function of the reproductive system?
To produce new life.
What type of food molecules do fatty acids and glycerol belong to?
Fat.
What is the difference between simple sugars and molecules like starch?
Starch is a complex molecule while simple sugars are far less complex.
What does the Benedict’s test indicate and what is the colour change?
The presence of simple carbohydrates. The colour change is blue to brick red.
