Electricity - 22/03/21 Flashcards
What is an Electron?
The substance which flows around a circuit, powering the components in it.
What is Static Electricity?
Electricity which has not yet been connected into a circuit and so has nowhere to move to, this builds up usually in kinetic energy sources.
What is a Van Der Graff Generator?
A type of generator/circuit which uses a belt to accumulate its electricity on a hollow metal globe.
What is a conductor?
A material which attracts or conducts electricity through itself, used to make circuits.
What is an insulator?
A material which does not conduct electricity and is used around currents so they are safe to use and touch.
What is a Switch?
A part of a circuit which can be used to divert or break up the circuit selectively to make it work differently.
What is a Motor?
A component in a circuit which powers other parts of the circuit by diverting energy to them.
What is an LED?
A type of electrically powered light.
What is an Electrical Circuit?
A closed shape made of conductive materials, designed to use electricity to power components like lights.
What is a Circuit Diagram?
Drawings which are used to represent a circuit which is going to be used in a design or project.
What is a Series Circuit?
A circuit which has only one primary path which all of the essential and main components run through.
What is a Parallel Circuit?
A circuit which has multiple paths, placed side by side like branches, where some of the main components are so that they can be operated and changed independently.
What is Current?
A measure of the flow of electrons around an electrical circuit.
What is an Amp?
The unit used to measure the current of a circuit, measured using an Ammeter.
What is Voltage?
The push by the battery provided to move the electrons around the circuit.
