Revision Booklet Flashcards
What is the dependent variable?
The dependent variable is the outcome being measured and is changed based on the independent variable.
What is the independent variable?
The independent variable is what is changed during an experiment to affect the dependent variable.
What are controlled variables?
Controlled variables are what stay the same during an experiment.
What is crystallisation?
The separation of a solution by evaporating the solvent, leaving behind solute crystals. The slower it evaporates the larger crystals are formed.
What is distillation?
Distillation is using heating to separate liquids with different boiling points. It uses evaporation to turn the substance with a lower boiling point into gas. Using a condenser, the gas is then turned back into a liquid through condensation.
What is a condenser?
A condenser is a glass tube cooled by water that cools a gas to become a liquid.
What is condensation?
Condensation is the cooling of a gas to become a liquid.
What is the equinox?
The equinox is the two times a year when night and day are about the same length.
What is the solstice?
The solstice is the two times each year when night and day are the most different in length. There is one in summer when the day is longest, and one in winter when the night is longest.
What is a made/synthetic resource?
A made/synthetic resource is a resource that is manufactured from natural resources.
What is a natural resource?
A natural resource is a resource that is valuable in its natural form.
What is a non-renewable resource?
A non-renewable resource is a resource that can run out, or one that takes longer than a human life span to be restored.
What is a renewable resource?
A renewable resource is a resource that cannot run out, or can be restored in a human life span.
What is a resource?
A source of something that is useful.
What is classification?
The process of sorting things into groups or classes.
