Revision Flashcards
State two different forms of advertising that could be used to promote a new treatment in a spa or salon.
Explain two advantages for each form of advertising identified in
- Leaflets / flyers
Easy of distribution, which communicates to a range of people. - Social media
Quick to set up / implement, which allows budges to be spent elsewhere.
Describe the anatomical term Prone.
Prone - lying face down / lying on abdomen
Describe the anatomical term Lateral.
Lateral - Towards the outer side of the body / the side of the body.
Explain the effects of UV radiation on the skin.
- UV radiation penetrates the skin, which stimulates mitosis causes premature ageing of the skin / wrinkles and fine lines.
- More melanocytes are produce, which injects more melanin into the surrounding cells to absorb harmful ray.
- Excessive exposure damage the underlying tissue causing redness/dry dehydrated skin and increase risk of cancer.
Explain how joint movement affects the synovial joint.
Increases flexibility and mobility / Range of movement by improving the flow of synovial fluid, within the joint capsule. Stimulates blood flow to the joint.
State the bones located in the shoulder girdle.
Clavicle - scapula
Stated the muscle responsible for the follow movement.
Flex the hip and internally rotate the knee.
Sartorius
Stated the muscle responsible for the follow movement.
Abduct and rotate the hip.
Gluteus minimus/gluteus medius
Stated the muscle responsible for the follow movement.
Flex the elbow, supination and pronation of the forearm.
Brachioradialis
Explain how the pulmonary circulation system differ from systemic circulation system.
- Pulmonary
Pulmonary arteries operate under high pressure transporting blood from the heart to lungs removing oxygenated blood more quickly from the body. - systemic
Systemic circulation carries oxygen and nutrients from the heart to the body and oxygenated blood from body to heart.
State the location of thymus gland.
Behind the sternum
Describe the function of the thoracic duct.
Collects lymph from the left side of the head, neck, left arm, lower limbs and abdomen.
Drains lymph into the left subclavian vein
Describe one cause and one symptom of Bell’s Palsy.
Damage to the facial nerves/nerve endings.
Paralysis or severe weakness which causes the facial muscle on the side of the face affected to droop.
Explain how external respiration physically affects the body.
- The pressure inside the lungs decreases, drawing air into the nasal cavity/mouth.
- During the drawing in of air increasing the volume of the thoracic cavity.
- The intercostal muscles contract, drawing the ribs upwards and outwards, changing the pressure within the lungs.
- The oxygen diffuses across the alveolar walls into the blood capillaries where it is transported to the cells of the body.
- From the cells waste carbon dioxide in taken from the cell of the body via the blood vessel back to the aveoli.
- The pressure in the lungs increase, pushing the air up and out through the nasal cavity/mouth.
- Breathing oxygen in through the nose/mouth where it is moistened/filtered.
- Exhales air and the diaphragm relaxes.
State the advice that should be given to a client who experiences a headache following a body massage.
Sip of water and relax/rest, avoid for 24hrs heat treatment/high temperature, stay away from bright lights and apply cold compress.
