What is the process of fractional distillation

A

Crude oil is heated in a tank, which is cool at the top and hot at the bottom. It is heated up until it vapourizes and then, that vapour rises and hydrocarbons condense at their specific boiling points.

How can the production of carbon monoxide in incomplete combustion be lethal?

A

Incomplete combustion occurs when not enough oxygen is provided whilst fuel is burnt into the environment. Carbon monoxide bind with the blood stronger than oxygen, this leads to reduced oxygen causing damage and potential death.

What is the difference between alkanes and alkenes?

A

Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons with single bonds, however alkenes are unsaturated hydrocarbons with at least one double bond.
