Kevlar

A

Kevlar is a strong synthetic fiber. amarid fibres
Properties:
- high TENSILE strength
- hard wearing
- flexible & lightweight
- cut and puncture resistant
- heat resistant
It is used in PPE, bullet proof vests, and body armour.
also used to reinforce tyres, add strength and durability to sports equipment.

Trees are cut —> Timber is debarked —> chips are added to the solution and cooked to produce a pulp —> chemicals are added —-> bleached / dyed to colour —> sizing —> excess water removes —> calendering

Manufactured Board

A

inexpensive so are often used as instead of real woods.
do not look as good as real woods look.
covered with a thin layer of real wood which
is called (veneer) this improves their appearance.
Not water resistant
MDF - Smooth, even surface.
Plywood - A very strong board which is constructed of layers of veneer or piles which are glued at 90 degrees to each other.
Chipboard - Made from chips of wood glued together.
