Review of endocrine organs and introduction to pelvis Flashcards
What is the pelvis
area which is surrounded by the bony pelvis
What is the greater pelvis
BOunded by bony pelvis above the pelvic inlet
What is the Lesser pelvis
below the pelvic inlet and above the pelvic outlet
What is the pelvic inlet
line which separates lesser and greater pelvis
What has the hip bone formed from
The fusing of 3 bones after puberty
- Pubis
- Ischium
- Ilium
What do the two hip bones attach to posteriorly
Sacrum via the sacroiliac joint
What do the two hip bones attach to anteriorly
Pubic symphysis
What is below the pubic symphysis and what is it defined by
Subpubic angle and it is defined by ischiopubic rami of pubis
at what level is the intercristal plane
L4 (highest point of iliac crest)
What are the borders of the pelvic inlet
Anteriorly- pubic symphysis
More laterally-pubic crest and pecten pubis
Even more laterally-Arcuate line of ilium
Ala of sacrum
Sacral promontory
Boundaries of the pelvic outlet
Anterior- Inferior aspect of Pubic symphysis
laterally- ISchiopubic ramus
Ischial tuberosity
Sacrotuberous ligaments
posterior- Coccyx
What is pelvic girldle like in males vs females
Males- heavier and thicker and more prominent bone markers
What is the greater pelvis like in males vs females
More deep in males
Shallow in females
What is lesser pelvis like in males vs females
What is pelvic inlet like in males vs females
Males is more deep and narrow
-females is shallow and wide
More heart shaped in males
-Oval or rounded in females
What is sub-pubic angle like in males vs females
Less than 70 degrees in males
-Females is above 80 degrees
