6:1
You must have a valid ticket before you board a train or you may be subject to a penalty fare.

Unless:

• No ticket buying facilities at the station
• You have authorisation to board a train by a member of staff written/verbal
• Ticket office is closed
• Self service machine is not in working order or will not accept your method of payment (get a promise to pay)
• You have a disability and ticket purchasing arrangements are not accessible to you

What are the reasons a Penalty Fare may be issued in section 10 of the Conditions of Travel? (5)

Answer 2

• Travel without a valid ticket
• Travel in First Class with a Standard ticket
• Travel on a train where the ticket isn’t valid
• Travel on a train company where the ticket isn’t valid
• Travel without supporting documents I.e Railcards etc
