Nazis mounted a huge campaign to persuade Saarlanders for reunification with Germany.

They disbanded after France and Britain threatened to send in troops
When was the plebiscite and what was the result?
The plebiscite was held in January 1935 and 90% of Saarlanders voted in favour of returning to Germany. The nazis celebrated a great victory.
What caused it to happen?
The T of V had removed the industrial area around the Saar and placed it under control of L of N. A plebiscite among the Saarlanders was to be held after 15 years to decide whether the Saar should return to Germany
What were the consequences?
- First legal undoing of T of V
- Encouraged Hitler to challenge more provisions of the T of V
- Area would provide Germany with raw materials
