Retroperitoneum Fibrosis Flashcards
dense fibrous tissue proliferation confined to the paravertebral region
Retroperitoneal fibrosis
ormonds disease or inflammatory aneurysm
The fibrosis rarely extends the superior to the level of L2 and may extend inferiorly to the
dome of the bladder
Generally, the fibrosis is centered at the
ao bifurcation
Sonographically, the appearance is usually a
hypo midline mass
It is assoc with
bilateral ureteral obstruction
Diagnosis of is often delayed with progressive loss of
renal function
IVC and lymphatic compression leads to lower extremity edema and gonadal v involvement may cause
scrotal swelling
Although the exact cause of retroperitoneal fibrosis has not been definitively described, evidence suggests that it develops as an
immunologic response to antigens within athersclerotic plaques
Fibrosis often begins around a
severely atherosclerotic ao
assoc include
- malignancy
- inflammatory periaoritis
- chornic retroperitoneal inflammation
- autoimmune disease
- retroperitoneal trauma
- connective tissue disease
- irradiation
- drugs
