what is the encoding specificity principle?
A
Tulving suggested that memory is more efficient if info that was present at the time of encoding is also present at the time of retrieval.

how did tulving test the importance of retrieval cues?
A
Participants were given 48 words to learn, belonging to 12 categorise. the words were presented as category+word (fruit-apple). There were 2 recall conditions: Free recall (40%) and recall with cue (60%).
