After ortho is completed, there are short-term dental changes as soft tissue fibers reorganize. How long does this take for the PDL? Gingival fibers? Supracrestal fibers?
PDL = 3-4 months
Gingival fibers = 4-6 months
Supracrestal fibers = +1year
Retainer that has:
- incisors retention –> labial bow from canine to canine
- Adam clasps –> undercuts for molar retention
- acrylic on palate
- occlusal surfaces of teeth are free to erupt
upper Hawley retainer
Retainer that has:
- acrylic on lingual
- clip-on bar from canine to canine
lower Hawley retainer
type of retainer in which a wire is bonded to the lingual surface of anterior teeth (usually mandibular canines or maxillary central incisors)
lingual bonded retainer
retainers recommended to prevent open bite relapse
- Upper Hawley retainer with posterior bite block
- Vacuum-formed retainer with thicker plastic on posterior occlusal surfaces separates the jaw
retainer used to prevent a deep bite relapse
