Resuscitation Drugs Flashcards
What is the typical dosage of Amiodarone during arrest
5mg/kg
Given once after the 3rd shock
How do you calculate weight from age if <12yo but above 12months?
(Age +4)x2
2yo would be (2+4)x2 = 12kg
How do you calculate weight from age if >12yo?
Age x 3 + 7
12yo = 36 + 7 = 43kg
What is the dosing of maintenance fluids per hour?
4ml/kg/hr for kg 1-10
2ml/kg/hr for the next kg 11-20
1ml/kg/hr for kg 21-50
25kg = 65mls/hr
over 24hrs 1560mls
What is the number of Joules per Kg in children?
4J/kg
20kg child would get 80j
If the exact number of joules is not available, round up to the closest setting on the machine
What is the dosing of IV adrenaline in arrest?
10mcg/kg
20kg child would get 200mcg
If shockable then every 2nd cycle
If non-shockable then immediately followed by every 2nd cycle
What is the initial resuscitation bolus of crystalloid?
20mls/kg
Usually normal saline
What is the placement of pads in infants? Older children?
Anteroposterior for infants
Anterolateral for older children
What is the dose of dextrose in children for hypoglycaemia?
2mls/kg of 10% dextrose
What is the dose of Midazolam in seizures?
0.15mg/kg IM/IV/IO
IN/Buccal 0.3mg/kg
Phenytoin in seizures
20mg/kg at rate 1mg/kg/min
Faster administration increases risk of hypotension and arrhythmias, needs cardiac monitoring
Phenobarbitone in seizures
20mg/kg
Thiopentone in seizures
Anaesthetic agent for RSI
2 - 5mg/kg
Infusion 1-4mg/kg/hr
Diazepam in seizures
IV/IO 0.3mg/kg
PR 0.5mg/kg
Cant be given IM as ineffective
Levetiracetam in Seizures
40mg/kg IV
Propofol induction dose in seizures
2.5mg/kg induction dose
1-3mg/kg/hr infusion
What is the most commonly used maintenance fluid?
0.9% Saline with 5% glucose
+/- 20mmol KCL
(Not if patient hypernatremic
If hypernatraemic then use 0.45% saline with 5% glucose +/- 20mmol KCL
What is the dosing of maintenance fluids per day?
100ml/kg for the 1st 10kg
50ml/kg for the 2nd 10kg
20ml/kg for every subsequent kg
What is the dose of IV Calcium in paeds
0.1mmol/kg
or 0.5mls/kg (2.2mmols in 10mls)
Hyperkalaemia, hypocalcaemia
What is the dose of insulin/dextrose in paeds for hyperkalaemia?
5ml/kg 10% glucose
with 0.05units/kg/h actrapid
