Results of Mitosis Flashcards
1
Q
What is the result of mitosis?
A
- Two identical cells
2
Q
What is the first stage of the process?
A
- If a cell is not dividing, the DNA is all spread out in long strings
3
Q
What is the second stage that happens to a cell?
A
- If the cell gets a signal to divide, it needs to duplicate its DNA so there’s one copy for each new cell
4
Q
Describe what then happens to the DNA (3)
A
- DNA copied and forms x-shaped chromsomes , with each ‘arm’ of the chromosomes being an exactly duplicate of the other
5
Q
What do the chromosomes in Mitosis then do?
A
- They line up at the centre of the cell and then cell fibres pull them apart
- The two arms of each chromosomes go opposite ends of the cell
6
Q
How do Membranes form in Mitosis?
A
- Membranes form around each of the sets of chromosomes
- These becomes the nuclei of the new cell
7
Q
What is the last process of Mitosis?
A
- Cytoplasm divides
8
Q
Sum up the process of Mitosis
A
- Two new diploid cells contain the exact same DNA, which are genetically identical
