Resultant Forces Flashcards
What is resultant force
When an object is subject to several forces, the resultant force is the force that alone produces the same acceleration as all those forces
If the resultant force is 0 what do you call the forces acting on the object
Balanced
Newtons first law of motion balanced forces
The first law is an object remains in the same state of motion unless a resultant force acts on it.
Newtons law of motion unbalanced forces
When the resultant force on an object is not zero, the forces acting on the object are not balanced . The movement of the object depends on the size and direction of the resultant force
If two forces act on an object along the same line, the resultant force is:
Their sum, if the forces act in the same direction
Their difference, if the forces act in opposite directions
What does the size of the arrows represent
The relative magnitude of the forces
Direction of the arrows represent
Direction of forces acting on the object
