Restriction Endonuclease Flashcards
0
Q
Restriction endonuclease cut what at a specific place?
A
They cut DNA double strands at a specific sequence of bases called a recognition sequence
1
Q
How do bacteria defend themselves using enzymes?
A
They produce restriction Endonuclease that cut up the viral DNA which prevents this viral DNA injecting into them to take over the DNA
2
Q
What are the two types of restriction Endonuclease’s?
What’s the difference between them?
A
- Blunt ends cut between two opposite base pairs leaving two straight edges
- Sticky ends cut in a staggered fashion leaving an uneven cut in which each strand of the DNA has exposed unpaired bases
