Q

Explain Gijseghem’s criticism of restorative justice (Ao3 - Restorative Justice)

A

Gijesgham said that it was important that an offender is honourable in their intentions. Some people may use RJ to avoid punishment or to enjoy their relationship over the victim in face-to-face contact.

This explains why RJ does not work for all offenders.

Q

Explain when the National Police Chief’s Council does not support the use of restorative justice (Ao3 - Restorative Justice)

A

The NPCC does not approve of RJ in domestic abuse situations as there is a power imbalance between abuser and victim. This may make the victim feel pressured to agree with their abuser during the meeting.
