Restorative justice Flashcards
strength Restorative justice council
the restorative justice council reported results of major- 7 year research project which said that 85% of survivors reported satisfaction from face-face meeting and 78% would recommend it to others.
strength domestic violence cases
Robin Sen et al.
others argue pre-trial mediation in domestic violence cases produces positive results for survivors. Robin Sen et al. suggests that restorative approaches are particularly useful in cases of intimate partner violence where a couple has chosen to remain together, as they can address the harm caused and plan for the future.
weakness
Wood and Suzuki
Wood and Suzuki argue restorative processes are not as survivor focused as often reported in satisfaction surveys. Processes can become distorted, such as when survivors are ‘used’ to help rehabilitate offenders and their needs aren’t met.
weakness success?
Success hinges om an offenders intentions being honourable. some suggest offenders use restorative justice for reasons other than regret and making amends such as avoiding punishment and playing down their faults. explaining why not all offenders benefit and some go on to reoffend.
