Restorative considerations 2 Flashcards
1
Q
what factors determine tooth mobility
A
- width of the PDL
- height of the PDL
- inflammation
- number, shape and length of roots
2
Q
when is tooth mobility a negative
A
- when it is progressively increasing
- when it gives rise to symptoms
- when it creates difficulty with restorative treatment
3
Q
how can you reduce tooth mobility
A
- control plaque induced inflammation
- correct occlusal relations
- splinting
4
Q
what is primary occlusal trauma
A
an injury resulting in tissue changes from excessive occlusal forces appleid to a tooth or teeth with normal periodontal support
It occurs in the presence of normal clinical attachment levels, normal bone levels and excessive occlusal force
5
Q
what is the response of a healthy periodontium to primary occlusal trauma
A
- PDL width increases until forces can be adequately dissipated and then the PDL width should stabilise
- tooth mobility will increase as a result
- this is a successful adaptation to increased demand
- if demand reduces, the PDL should return to normal
